Simon is 32-year-old man, 185cm tall, of medium build with blue eyes and short to medium length hair. He speaks with an Australian accent.

He was last seen by members of the public at an area of the Wainui Beach settlement known as The Whales, at about 6.30am on Wednesday 14th October 2009.

He was wearing long pyjama pants and a brown hooded top.

His blue Volkswagon Passat was found abandoned 5km further north at Makorori Hill lookout.

Mr Eckersley has a young son and works as a radio advertising agent in Gisborne.

Police have also set up a mannequin dressed as Mr Eckersley, who was last seen wearing pyjama pants and a brown hooded top , and conducted a letter drop calling for anyone with information to get in touch.

"We'd like to hear from anybody who may have seen him walking or hitch-hiking in the Makorori and Wainui area, or anyone who knows his current whereabouts," Police said.

The Gisborne Herald reports that there was "a sighting of Mr Eckersley walking along Rutene Road, between Tyndall Road and de Lautour Road, on Thursday led police and searchers towards town.

Another at the Whitaker Street and Ballance Street intersection later that morning prompted placing an information bus and mannequin, wearing clothes similar to those Mr Eckersley was wearing, at the Ballance Street Village.

Mr Eckersley’s “tight-knit” circle of friends have spent the past few days door-knocking in grids in the Kaiti and Whataupoko areas, and stationed at shops handing out flyers."
